In order to maintain active membership, below are the basic requirements*/guidelines for each Las Amigas member:
- Attend as many monthly meetings as you can -- we encourage no more than three (3) absences. The primary focus at our monthly meetings are updates on Los Amigos, Orthopaedic Institute for Children (OIC), and planning for the annual fundraiser and other activities.
- Participate in our annual fundraiser by being a committee chair or by working on a committee.
- (Optional depending on availability and the will of the Membership) Participate in Las Amigas Board.
- There is not a minimum hourly requirement except for meeting attendance.
- You are NOT required to do community service outside of our organization.
- You are not required to volunteer at the Orthopaedic Institute for Children, but it is an extremely rewarding experience.
- Your financial commitment is $65 for registration plus $75 for each child that participates in Los Amigos and a $500 monetary donation (which you can solicit in the form of sponsorships or donations for the annual fundraiser).
- We sometimes host other small events over the year which are not required, but always fun.
Los Amigos*
- Sons and daughters of Las Amigas members are welcome to join our youth organization Los Amigos.
- Los Amigos affords younger children an opportunity to participate starting in their 6th grade year. These middle school boys and girls are known as Junior Los Amigos. Junior Los Amigos can attend meetings and participate in annual fundraising committees as appropriate. Community service opportunities may vary with age and availability.
- Beginning at age 14 or 9th grade, Los Amigos can begin volunteering at OIC.
- In their senior or 12th grade year, Los Amigos may be able to participate in the OIC internship program.
- The volunteer hourly requirement over a four (4) year period is as follows:
- Fifty (50) hours of community service and fifty (50) hours of hospital service for a total of one-hundred (100) hours.
- If your daughter or son is joining Los Amigos after their freshman year, the hours will be prorated by 12.5 hours for community service and 12.5 hours for hospital service each year.
- Community service opportunities will be made available through Los Amigos. Community service hours performed on your own can and should be submitted to Los Amigos for tracking. Attending Los Amigos meetings will count towards each members hourly service requirement as well as working at our events and programs. Los Amigos participates in the Presidential Volunteer Service awards as a certifying organization and we will keep track of hours for each member.
- Los Amigos are required to attend a minimum of four (4) general meetings per year. Executive Board Members may attend additional meetings. General meetings are offered usually on weekends and they last for approximately one (1) hour. The members learn how to hold a meeting using Roberts Rules of Order as the standard format run by the Los Amigos Executive Board.
- Depending on age/year in school, Los Amigos have the opportunity to participate on the Executive Board:
- President
- Vice President, Newsletter
- Two (2) Co-Vice Presidents of Social Media
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Communications Chair
- Junior Mentor
- We plan to have Los Amigos participate in at least one (1) social event during the year.
